I mentored my first student this afternoon... a 10-year-old boy named Thomas who, on first meeting, doesn't exhibit any signs of a student needing a mentor. He comes from a two-parent home, likes school, plays football, and claims that his grades are good. Pretty sure there is more here than meets the eye, but time will tell. I've decided not to ask his teacher or counselor about his problems so that I don't have any preconceived ideas. We'll just see how it pans out. I'll spend 30 minutes with him once a week, so it may take a while.
Nine ladies went to dinner at a German restaurant tonight for Oktoberfest. Most of them had the buffet (not my idea of a good meal so I ordered off the menu) and we were serenaded by accordion music. Reminded me of my wedding reception.
