I had the most wonderful jump start to my day this morning: On our daily walks (if we stay inside Heritage Grand), we pass many neighbors with their dogs. For that reason, I usually venture outside our gates where other dogs aren't as prevalent because Glory and Simon are occasionally too exuberant and aren't well versed in greeting others. But today we stayed inside and as we were finally headed for home, an elderly man was approaching and didn't seem real steady on his feet. I pulled the dogs in tightly, but he was headed straight for us and appeared to be fumbling inside a plastic bag. I was so touched when he pulled out two little dog biscuits. He was grinning from ear to ear as he held the treats out for the dogs. I wish I'd taken a picture because it was one of the sweetest things I've ever seen and I almost started weeping openly as we passed.

And the hits just keep on coming: This evening, we were several streets over and an older woman (80-ish) was working in her yard. I'd never seen her before, but she stopped what she was doing to come to the street and greet the dogs. We chatted briefly before I moved on. I'm looking forward to getting to know more people like those two (or getting to know those two better). I can't stop smiling!
