Tree roaches... ugh! These are the creatures that can give a small mouse a run for its money, size-wise, and scare the bejeezus out of me because they can also fly. Last night, when I spotted the first one since I've been back, scurrying across my bedroom floor to safety under the bed, all my bad memories came flooding back. Many, many years ago I was enjoying a luxurious bath when one flew into the tub and I flew out as quickly as possible - an act that would probably result in a broken bone at this age (and that was probably when I quit taking baths). And the time that one was crawling up a wall and when I sprayed it, flew and landed right on my chest! These buggers are so much bigger than your average cockroach and are more frightening to me than almost any other creature, snakes included.
I ran to Home Depot this morning and bought the giant exterminator-sized bottle of spray, which I used on all my outside walls inside the house. I think as an extra layer of protection that I will also spray outside tomorrow. This is war! As a last resort, I'll call an exterminator (and probably should have already), but am going the cheap route first, as any of you who know me well, would assume to be my first plan of action.
And then there's the matter of the rogue still on the loose in the house. I'm pretending that one of the dogs found it and made it a between meal snack, only so that I will be able to sleep tonight. Stay posted for further sightings.
P.S. I assume you realize that I did not take this photo.
