I went back to the ophthalmologist last week because I'm having a serious problem with double vision and also wanted her to recheck my prescription. Even though she continued to assert that I was past the point of being able to wear progressive lenses, I still had a pair that I wore occasionally except that the distance part wasn't strong enough. I'd ordered (for the second time) a pair of glasses based on the most recent prescription, but was absolutely unable to wear them... they made me dizzy. So I took her both pairs - the ones I could wear and the ones I couldn't. She backed off on my prescription a little, but was still doubtful, and told me the double vision was due to the macular degeneration and there just wasn't anything that could be done. I was undeterred.
So I took the new prescription to Costco, prepared to beg for a refund when they didn't work. I also ordered the cheapest frames I could find, so in case I couldn't get my money back, it wouldn't be so painful. Well... I picked up the new glasses this morning and almost cried when I put them on. I haven't been able to see this clearly for at least the last two years. The double vision isn't gone, but greatly improved. Now I plan to go back on Monday and order a new pair with more attractive frames (the ones I have look exactly like Mom's last pair of glasses... don't want to appear elderly, you know). I'll use the old lady ones at home and the nicer ones for going out. I'm on cloud nine!
