And now my new life is finally beginning. I attended a kickoff meeting this morning for mentors in Katy ISD. Sharon's daughter, Emily, told me earlier in the summer that her husband, Sam, knew of a mentoring program in the schools. I emailed Sam a few weeks ago and he immediately put me in contact with the woman in charge of the program. I heard right back from her and was assigned to an elementary school about 15 minutes away. At that point I also requested the school closest to my house and got it as well. Then this afternoon I attended a training session in the first school and should start in the next few weeks. I'll have training at the other school next week. I'm totally rejuvenated and can't wait to begin.
But the best part is that Sam was at the kickoff this morning and when I went to greet and thank him for the connection, he told me that he will be a mentor for the first time because of me! He said that he's considered it many times for the last few years, but because I was doing it, it motivated him as well. That warmed the cockles of my heart!
P.S. Flooring is still not done. It's 6:30 now and I'm hoping we're closing in on the end of this project. It's still up in the air and I'm a heartbeat away from total hysteria.
