Funny story from Cali, the 8-year-old girl I mentor. We meet for an hour each week and although I usually take a little something for us to do each time, I decided that since I hadn't seen her in two weeks due to Thanksgiving, and with Christmas fast approaching, she'd have plenty to talk about. She's quite the talker and I wasn't wrong. She was deeply involved in a lengthy story about shopping with her grandma, who bought her several pair of earrings, when she whispered behind her hand, "Hashtag, my niece stole one of the pair."

After I quit laughing, much to her surprise, I asked her what hashtag means. She stated matter-of-factly, "It means by the way or also." I think she was stunned that I didn't know that and I didn't dare try to explain the real meaning. She told me last time that one of her favorite TV shows is Keeping Up With the Kardashians, so that explains a lot.
