A 75-year-old friend in the neighborhood has had her 55-year-old son living with her for the past year. Well, several weeks ago he bought his own house... two doors down from Mom. So this afternoon Mom threw him a housewarming shower and it was quite an event. She had registered him at Bed Bath and Beyond and there were at least 20 people there, which meant lots of gifts. Because it was Valentine's Day, the hostess also provided lots of chocolate sweets and treats, all of which I had to try, of course. It was fun and after he opened all of his presents, he announced that he will be on call as the resident handyman and asked us all to please not inform his mother every time we see him coming or going. Cute!

The mother of one of the women there died yesterday morning in Boston. Obviously the family can't get there now due to the weather, so they will cremate her and have a memorial service in May. The death was unexpected and of course, Debbie was quite distraught. I invited her over this evening to watch Boyhood on DVD. She needs diversion at this point and I'm pretty good at providing that.
