Omigosh, I had so much fun today! Five other ladies and I went to the horse races and had a blast. I had no idea what to expect because the Sam Houston Race Park is not nearly on the level of Oaklawn in Hot Springs that Gretchen and I used to go to every year. But that's what made it better. Horses run only on Monday and Tuesday during the week and they get their big business on Friday and Saturday nights (not an option for old ladies in Katy).

First of all, it was free admission, as it is every Mon and Tue... very unexpected. Then, because so few people attend, anyone can sit in the Jockey Club, which is members only on the weekend. We sat at nice tables with white tablecloths, enjoyed an excellent buffet (grazing all afternoon), and had a delightful waiter to serve us drinks.

But the best part is that we happened to run into the Director of Player Services when we first went in and boy, did he provide the services. He came and got us before the second race, took us down to the track to watch it (actually ON the track... not where the horses were running, but the outer track where no one is allowed). Then he took us to the winner's circle to have our photo taken by the official photographer. I'll post it when he emails it to me.

And the best news of all... started with $20 and came home with $20.35, using the Frank Wiggins method of always betting on the favorites. The horses only run for three more weeks, but we made plans to go back two more times. Fun, fun, fun!

P.S. Gretchen, next winter you need to plan a trip to Texas!
