Sweet, sweet Cali... bless her little heart. She starts talking the minute we see each other and barely slows down till I leave. She started this morning with the fact that her mother was on vacation. I thought this odd since she doesn't even have a job, but when I asked where, Cali replied, "My sister told me not to tell you because it's private family business." So I said that was fine and she proceeded with her story. She did say that her mom left last Wednesday and she didn't even know she was leaving. Her mom's friend is staying with her and she added that she cried and cried when she got home from school that day. Within five minutes she mentioned that her mom was in a facility. I remained quiet and she immediately knew she shouldn't have said it. So she added that it was because she was depressed. I just told her that was good and she would get help there so she could be better when she got home.
Then later she was telling me about making a journal for her mom but she couldn't use staples because maybe someone there would try to staple herself. I feel so bad for Cali because she doesn't know when her mom will be home. Fortunately as a mentor, I'm not allowed to see her away from school. Otherwise she'd probably be spending the night at my house. So I'll just pray for her and her family instead.
