I saw Hope this afternoon and it was a bit of a roller coaster ride. The first thing she told me was that there was a family who wanted to adopt her. I was stunned, but very excited for her. I asked her if she knew anything about them and she said she'd talked to the mom at length. It's a single mother whose daughter is also at Krause and a friend of Hope's. At this point I was slightly suspicious, but still very hopeful. I asked why her friend is there and she replied that it was due to a probation violation. And another red flag goes up. As our time progressed, she added that she'd told her case worker about it, but wasn't sure she had followed up yet. And at this point, I thought, "Whoa, Nellie!" So I asked, "Was this something you figured out?" to which she answered yes. And all my hopes came crashing down.
I certainly didn't want to burst her balloon, but I did say that the mother would have to pass a home check to even be considered as a foster parent. Hope said she knew that, but felt that it wouldn't be a problem. The good news is she said that she was praying for it (first time she's used that word) and I added that I would pray, too. What else can I do?
